One of the good controversies in respects of treatment of
alcohol issues is that the discussion of whether or not alcoholism may be a
disease. There’s very little doubt that relating to alcoholism as a disease,
instead of as an ethical weakness, has brought advantages to
alcoholics/addicts. To some extent it reduced the stigma experienced by
sufferers and has opened the door to treatment instead of punishment. It’s the
mainstay of the assumption system of AA and NA teams who are liable for serving
to several to get over a hopeless state. But there are several critics of the
disease model, each on the grounds that there's very little proof to support it
which it's going to if truth be told is detrimental to recovery.
